When Lucie Simon Hainer Hangstefer, a former editor for publishing houses, learned she had Alzheimer’s disease, she decided to write her memoirs. “I thought I should be writing the story of my life to leave an account for my children and grandchildren, but never got around to doing so,’’ she began. “Since my mind no longer works sequentially, and my memories jump around in my head, I’ll just try to make jottings whenever I can.’’ Mrs. Hangstefer, who also helped run a Waltham wine shop, died Oct. 16.
