Douglas Preston
The bestselling author, who wrote "Relic," was born in Cambridge but grew up in Wellesley. His bio describes the town as a "deadly boring suburb." Douglas and his brother, Richard, author of "The Hot Zone," used to roam the neighborhood at night, causing mischief. Once, they attempted to launch a rocket in Wellesley Square and nearly killed a man mowing his lawn.
In the photo, Preston writes at his "writing shack," located in the woods behind his Round Pond, Maine, home.
