A former South Shore Hospital executive will serve a year and a day in federal prison for stealing $222,000 from the Weymouth hospital. William S. Burke, 38, of Plymouth, will also have to pay restitution of about $107,000, the amount he has not yet paid back.

Prosecutors said that between 2007 and 2009, Burke, who was administrative director of the hospital’s cardiovascular center, funneled money from charitable contributions and medical supply rebates into an account opened under his name. He used the money for personal expenses and bills, according to the office of US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz.

Burke pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in February and was sentenced yesterday in US District Court by Judge Rya W. Zobel.
