C.C. Burr Elementary School
C.C. Burr School is the newest of the 15 public elementaries in Newton. It draws its more than 330 students primarily from the Auburndale and West Newton neighborhoods. After 5th grade, Burr students go to Day Middle School, and then to Newton North High School. Burr was built in 1967, mostly on the site of a former dump. It has 16 classrooms. Classrooms on the second floor were upgraded as part of a renovation in 1998. It is one few Newton schools not currently pinched for space. Its 103 square feet per pupil is the highest among elementaries, and its 8.65-acre lot is the second largest. A 2007 report to the School Committee found Burr could accommodate another 19 students, but the same report projected its five-year growth in enrollment to be 76 students.
