The American Chinese Art Society, a non-profit cultural organization, was founded in 1984. Their goal is to preserve and promote Chinese arts as part of America's rich cultural resources and to strengthen the cultural exchanges between the Chinese and American communities. They provide training in performing arts and sponsor concerts, festivals, exhibitions, and workshops.

The New Art Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artistic creation and education through classes, exhibitions, and public programs. They educate more than 1,800 students annually with a faculty of 40 professional artists and operate one of the few mid-sized nonprofit exhibition spaces in New England.

New Philharmonia Orchestra

The New Philharmonia Orchestra, founded in 1995, is a non-professional regional orchestra with 75 members. It's based in Newton but performs in Wellesley, Newton, Natick, Framingham, and Boston. With maestro Ronald Knudsen, the orchestra's non-professional players have the opportunity to achieve a high level of ensemble performance not otherwise available. The New Philharmonia Orchestra is a member of the League of American Orchestras and the New England Orchestra Consortium.

The Newton Art Association is a community-based arts organization for artists of all experience levels with a registration fee of $30 per year. They conduct public meetings with demonstrations by well-known regional artists every second Thursday of the month from September to May. Member benefits include business support, networking, private and public exhibit opportunities, "critique nights," and yearly competitions. Scholarship Awards are available for Newton High School seniors.

Newton Camera Club

The Newton Camera Club aims to provide photographers of all skill levels a forum for discussing photography and sharing their work. They meet from September through April on the second and fourth Mondays of the month and occasionally go on field trips. The meeting locations are announced as they are settled due until a permanent home can be found.

Now in its 32nd season, the Newton Choral Society performs both beloved masterpieces and new works. They frequently collaborate with soloists and orchestras like the Boston Philharmonic, the New Philharmonia, and the Civic Symphony of Boston. Their music director is David Carrier. Tickets ($25, $21 students/seniors) are available at the door for each concert, and season tickets are also available.

Newton Community Chorus

The Newton Community Chorus has been performing classical and modern choral music for more than 25 years. They hold at least two major concerts a year, in the winter and the late spring. All concerts are professionally recorded. The chorus has 100 voices from several generations with various levels of experience. Their music director is Richard Travers.

This non-profit community theater group, formerly known as The Country Players of Newton, brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests to participate in theater. They have been performing for the greater Newton and Metro West area for almost five decades.

Newton Open Studios

Newton Open Studios produces community arts events that bring together the artists and residents of Newton. It is funded by artists registration fees and donations from sponsors, and in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council as administered by the Newton Cultural Council. Newton Open Studios is a project of the Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs.

Created in 1980 by Jonathan Miller, the BAE began by playing weekly live chamber performances as the WGBH Resident Chamber Ensemble across the entire United States. Since then, the group has made its home in Newton and in Salem. The BAE performs five times per season, with programs consisting of works by well-known composers, mixed with twentieth century works, and occasional new works.

The Newton Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1965 with a mission to provide Newton and the surrounding communities with fine music at affordable prices close to home. They provide volunteer and pre-professional musicians with the opportunity to develop their skills and play high-quality music. This season they welcome a new music director, James M. Orent, and under the baton of Jeffrey Rink, the NSO enters its 6th year of offering concert opera performances.

Norumbega Harmony

Norumbega Harmony was founded in 1976 at Wellesley College as an undergraduate student organization by singing master Dr. Stephen Marini. The student group soon attracted singers from outside the College and in the early 1980s moved to Cambridge and took on the name "Norumbega Harmony". Norumbega Harmony sponsors monthly Boston area singings from the Original Sacred Harp and other shape-note tunebooks in the Meetinghouse behind Noyes Hall at the Andover-Newton Theological School. These take place every second Monday of the month beginning at 7:45 p.m. Norumbega Harmony is one of the largest and most active groups of Sacred Harp and shape-note singers in New England. The Group includes more than 50 singers. The singers, who have diverse musical and religious backgrounds, gather weekly for fellowship and traditional hollow-square singing from which the group's characteristic singing style has evolved.

The Suzuki School, now in its 22nd season, offers classical music instruction based upon the teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, where children will learn by ear and which follows the teacher's example or demonstration. Parents are involved in a learning triangle of child-student-parent that all work together to share the joys of music and learning. They believe that teaching children a love of music and learning helps them to grow to become kind-hearted and expressive human beings.

Youth pro Musica was founded in 1970 by Director Emerita Roberta Humez and was then led from 1995 to 2003 by Hazel Somerville. YpM's singers, drawn from over thirty communities in and around Boston, attend weekly rehearsals throughout the school year and performed throughout the Greater Boston area. YpM's current artistic director, Peter Krasinski, assumed leadership in January 2004. YpM commissions original works and performs local, national, and world premieres.

The Leventhal-Sidman JCC, a branch of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, is a non-profit agency dedicated to fostering the continuity of Jewish life. They aim to serve as a central gathering place for people of all ages and stages of connection with the larger community. Set on acres of open space and wooded area, and housed in what was for many years The Working Boys Home, the JCC retains much of the building's original 1890's brickwork and character.

Newton Conservators Inc. is a citizens group that advocates for Newton's open spaces. They are a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of Newton's open space, for wildlife and for the community. Since their founding in 1961, they have protected more than 350 acres of open space, and helped create major parks for public enjoyment.

We've been in existence since 1877 and opened the building on 276 Church Street in 1911. Since that time we have continued to expand our facilities to where we are today. We now boast of over 7,000 members ranging in age from six months to 90 years old. We have over 100 programs which run six times a year and over 50 free group exercise classes per week. We serve the communities of Newton, Weston, Wellesley, Watertown and Belmont and no one is ever turned down for inability to pay.

La Leche League is an international organization committed to breastfeeding support and education. The group was started in 1956 by seven mothers who dreamed of a day when all women who wanted to nurse would be able to do so. Today the organization stands as the internationally recognized authority on breastfeeding. LLL is a non-profit group comprised of mothers, families and health professionals from around the world. There are over 3,000 LLL groups in 61 countries, led by mothers who volunteer their time to help women breastfeed.
