My 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe makes a rattling sound under the driver’s side of the car. What I should do?

Q. My 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe makes a rattling sound under the driver’s side of the car. It has been in service two times in the past month, but both times the shop didn’t see anything wrong. The vibration and overall feel is getting worse to the point that I don’t feel comfortable driving this car anymore. What I should do?

A. You should road test the car with a technician or service advisor so you both hear and feel the same things. There are plenty of parts that can wear on your vehicle, from the coil spring insulators and sway bar links to the steering gear intermediate shaft and the lower ball joints. Some of these parts are easy to check, but the technician should check the ball joints more carefully. If the vehicle was jacked up incorrectly, it could mask a badly worn ball joint.
