Q. I hear a rattle while going over bumps in my old Ford Bronco. I had the front end all checked out and the shocks replaced, but I can still hear it. Any thoughts on what it could be?
A. The brake pads on old Broncos have a metal spring clip that holds the front brake pads from rattling. At some point, it is more than likely that the clips were left off during a brake service. Here’s a simple test: Drive on a bumpy road where you can hear the rattle, then drive on the same road while lightly applying the brakes. If the rattle is gone, it means the clips are missing.
