Here are the road closures and parking bans for Boston’s Fourth of July celebrations

The restrictions begin on Monday.

It’s just about time for the Boston Pops to take to the Esplanade for a patriotic evening of music and pyrotechnics. And, as with any large event in the city, that means accompanying parking bans and road closures. 

The Massachusetts State Police have already outlined which streets to avoid and where not to leave your vehicle this week. All affected roads will remain closed until the Department of Conservation and Recreation Labor Force has been able to clean the road, unless otherwise noted.

Here are the road closures to expect this week: 

Tuesday, July 2

  • Storrow Drive’s westbound right-hand travel lane will be closed starting at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, July 3

  • The Arlington Street exit from the Storrow Tunnel going eastbound will be closed at 7 a.m. and re-open at 6 a.m. on July 5.
  • Berkeley Street at Beacon Street will be closed starting at 3 p.m.
  • Mugar Way at Beacon Street will be closed starting at 3 p.m. and re-open on the morning of Friday, July 5.
  • Storrow Drive’s westbound right-hand travel lane will be closed starting at noon. The road will also be closed to westbound traffic from Charles Circle to the Bowker Overpass, as well as to eastbound traffic, starting at 3 p.m. 

Thursday, July 4

  • Ames Street from Main Street to Memorial Drive in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Amherst Street in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Cambridge Parkway will be closed, except for vehicles with handicapped placards and plates, starting at 4 p.m.
  • Carleton Street in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Charlotte’s Way in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Craigie Bridge by the Museum of Science will be closed from around 10:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Friday, July 5.
  • Dock Street in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Gilmore Bridge’s westbound right lane will be closed from 4 p.m. until around 9 p.m.
  • Hayward Street in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Land Boulevard from Binney Street to Longfellow Bridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Longfellow Bridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Main Street in Cambridge from Third Street to Longfellow Bridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • The Massachusetts Avenue Bridge from Boston to Cambridge will experience lane closures starting at noon. It will be closed in both directions from Beacon Street in Boston to Vassar Street in Cambridge starting at 4 p.m.
  • Memorial Drive from Massachusetts Avenue to the BU Bridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m. It will also be closed in both directions from Massachusetts Avenue to Longfellow Bridge starting at 4 p.m.
  • Storrow Drive going westbound will not be accessible from the Beacon Street on-ramp under the Bowker Overpass starting at 3 p.m.
  • Storrow Drive on- and off-ramps at Berkeley Street, Bowker Overpass from Park Drive and the Fenway, Charles Street Circle going westbound, and Charlesgate Area going eastbound will be closed starting at 7 a.m.
  • Storrow Drive will not be accessible from Kenmore Square (Bowker Overpass) for those traveling westbound starting at 3 p.m.
  • Storrow Drive from Leverett Circle to Kenmore Square will be closed starting at 7 a.m.
  • Storrow Drive’s Leverett Circle entrance going westbound will be closed starting at 7 a.m.
  • Storrow Drive going eastbound will be detoured at University Avenue starting at 3 p.m.
  • Third Street in Cambridge will become a one-way street from Main Street to Monsigner O’Brien Highway starting at around 10:30 p.m.
  • The Tip O’Neil Tunnel’s Storrow Drive exit ramp will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles starting at 7 a.m.
  • Vassar Street in Cambridge from Massachusetts Avenue to Memorial Drive will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
  • Wadsworth Street in Cambridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m.

Here are the parking bans for this week’s festivities:

Monday, July 1

  • Mugar Way, from Arlington Street to Charles Street, starting at 7 a.m. Parking will resume at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 5.

Wednesday, July 3

  • The Esplanade curbside from Longfellow Bridge going westbound to the Fielder Footbridge will be reserved for permitted bus parking starting at noon.
  • Storrow Drive, for both the Boston Pops rehearsals and concert, starting at noon. 

Thursday, July 4

  • Cambridge Parkway starting at midnight.
  • Memorial Drive, on either side of the road from 450 Massachusetts Ave. to Longfellow Bridge, starting at midnight.
