Jeep made up five of 10 of the least expensive vehicles to insure in 2017, while Mercedes convertibles accounted for more than than half of the most expensive, according to a recent analysis by Quadrant Information Services and commissioned by

The rankings were compiled based on the average insurance rates for more than 2,800 vehicles from the 2017 model year and an identical driver profile at six major insurance carriers: Allstate, Farmers, Geico, Nationwide, Progressive, and State Farm. Ten zip codes per state and the District of Columbia were also used to determine the rankings.

“Cars that are cheaper to insure typically have fewer claims and are easier to repair. They also will cost much less to replace than vehicles on the expensive list,” Penny Gusner,’s consumer analyst, said in a statement. “As more parents have moved to driving SUVs, we have seen SUVs take over the least expensive list.”
