Heads up: The bridge at Mass. Ave. and Comm. Ave. is closed this weekend

Here’s a list of the detour routes for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.

Look out for slow-moving traffic this weekend.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that it will close Mass. Ave. northbound and southbound at Comm. Ave. on March 10 and 11. The Comm. Ave. underpass on both sides of Mass. Ave. will also be closed, too.

From 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday, MassDOT said that crews will conduct preparation activities and removing asbestos material found within the bridge. The department is assuring residents that “appropriate containment measures that meet safety standards will be in place.”

MassDOT said that this two-day closure should be the only disruption until the full bridge is repaired. That construction is planned from Thursday, May 10 at 10 p.m. to  Tuesday, May 15 at 5 a.m.

Here’s a list of detour routes for vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic during the closure period:

  • Northbound Detour Route: From Mass. Ave., vehicles traveling northbound will turn right onto Boylston Street and then turn left onto Hereford Street Continue on Hereford Street, turn left onto Beacon Street, and then turn right onto Mass. Ave. to continue northbound.
