The all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Hyundai

The all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade adds a full-size SUV to the Hyundai lineup with room for larger families with busy lifestyles. There’s seating for up to eight passengers with a surprisingly upscale interior that makes the Palisade ideal for family road trips.

Large SUVs are popular and are increasingly the vehicle of choice for big families. Even if you only have a few kids, they have friends and at some point, you’ll be carpooling and need the extra seating and cargo room. When that time arrives, the Hyundai Palisade is ready.

The Palisade is available in three trims, each with a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Power across the lineup comes from a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine with 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Those are good numbers for a vehicle this size and help ensure the Palisade responds when you press on the accelerator.

Keeping to the family budget is easier with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon on the highway, and 22 miles per gallon combined for front-wheel drive models. Choose all-wheel drive and the numbers drop slightly to 19 miles per gallon in the city, 24 miles per gallon on the highway, and 21 miles per gallon combined.

Hyundai’s goal with the Palisade was to create a family-friendly vehicle with the features families want at a price they can afford without compromising on quality. This means even the base model has good convenience and safety features and the interior looks and feels nice rather than cheap.

Standard features include seating for eight with a power-folding second row, one touch second-row seat slide for making third-row access easy, underfloor storage, tilt-and telescopic steering wheel, and smart cruise control with stop and go. Captain’s chairs are optional on the SEL trim and become standard on the top Limited. This reduces seating to seven but offers a more comfortable ride for those in the second row.

It’s roomy for passengers and has lots of space for cargo. There’s 18.0 cubic feet behind the third row, 45.8 cubic feet behind the second row, and 86.4 cubic feet behind the first row. The Palisade can also tow up to 5,000 pounds properly equipped. It offers the flexibility to handle your passenger and cargo needs no matter how they change from one day to the next.

As you move through the trim range, standard features increase to create a more luxurious experience. The six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat becomes eight-way power adjustable with two-way power lumbar. There are available heated and ventilated front seats and even the second-row and steering wheel have the option for heat. Fabric trims are replaced with leather and there’s a leather-wrapped steering wheel, all adding a touch of luxury to the Palisade.

Base infotainment includes an eight-inch screen with AM/FM/MP3, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s an available 10.25-inch color touchscreen that adds navigation as an option starting with the SEL and standard on the Limited. That top trim also gets a 630-watt Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers for a premium audio experience.

There is also a long list of standard safety features. These include forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, lane keep assist, reverse park distance warning, rear occupant alert, and trailer sway control.

The mid-range Palisade SEL adds features including blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision assist, and safe exit assist. Sitting at the top of the lineup is the Limited with a full suite of advanced safety features. It adds forward park distance warning, highway drive assist, and ultrasonic rear occupant alert.

The three trim lineup starts with the Palisade S at $31,550 followed by the SEL at $33,500. Sitting at the top of the lineup is the Limited at $44,700. Add all-wheel drive to any trim for an additional $1,700. The all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade offers an affordable and well-equipped option for families in need of a large SUV.
