Q: I am a regular follower of your column and I hope that you are able to help with this question. My husband and I are trying to decide on a new small car or SUV. We would like a vehicle that handles well on our small snowy city streets and is fuel efficient. A hybrid would be a plus. Do you have any suggestions?

A: At one time I would have said the best and almost only choice was a Subaru XV Crosstrek hybrid. Now there are several vehicles in this category. Look at the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue; both are available in fuel efficient hybrid designs. Of the three vehicles, I am most impressed with the Toyota RAV4. It is quick, comfortable, fuel efficient, and handles poor weather extremely well.
