Two people who struck a moose on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire Saturday night are “lucky to be alive,’’ fire officials said.

The driver and a passenger were heading north in Campton shortly before 11 p.m. when their two-door Mini Cooper hit the moose as it crossed Interstate 93 and slid off the roadway into some trees, trapping the passenger, fire officials said in a Sunday statement.

“Fortunately bystanders were quick to take action, likely saving a life,’’ the statement said.
