CarGurus, the Cambridge-based auto research and shopping website, has compiled a list of the top 10 car models that have been most popular with Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco area car shoppers this summer.
This list is based on the company's review of car listing inquiries submitted to dealerships at CarGurus.com since June 1 by car shoppers living in these metro areas. CarGurus is a leading auto research and shopping site with 4 million unique monthly visitors.
1. Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler is the most asked about car in Boston. The 2012 model of this vehicle delivers 17 city miles per gallon and 21 highway miles per gallon.
The Volkswagen Beetle is No. 1 in Chicago.
The BMW 3 Series led in San Francisco.
2. Honda Accord
The 2012 model of Boston’s second most popular car provides 23 city miles per gallon and 34 highway miles per gallon. The Accord is now more than three decades old.

3. Toyota Camry
The Camry took the No. 3 spot in Boston and Chicago. The 2012 model of this car provides 25 city miles per gallon and 35 highway miles per gallon.

4. BMW 3 Series
The 3 Series is available in coupe, convertible, sedan, hybrid, and sports wagon models. The 2012 sedan is now in its sixth generation and provide 33 highway miles per gallon.

5. Honda Civic
The Civic and Camry are the only vehicles to appear on all three top ten lists. The 2012 model of this car delivers 28 city miles per gallon and 39 highway miles per gallon.

6. Toyota RAV4
The 2012 RAV4 has Bluetooth wireless technology, six airbags, and available electronic on-demand four-wheel drive. It delivers 28 highway miles per gallon.

7. Ford F-150
Boston’s most sought-after truck took the No. 7 spot. The 2012 F-150 can carry 3,060 pounds, according to Ford’s website, and delivers 17 city miles per gallon and 23 highway miles per gallon.

8. Nissan Altima
The 2012 Altima Sedan received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s highest rating for side-impact crash safety. It delivers 23 city miles per gallon and 32 highway miles per gallon.

9. Toyota Corolla
The 2012 Corolla delivers 26 city miles per gallon and 34 highway miles per gallon. It has six airbags, power outside mirrors, windows and door locks, and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat.

10. Honda Pilot
Rounding out Boston’s top ten, the 2012 Pilot provides 18 city miles per gallon and 25 highway miles per gallon. This vehicle provides a quieter ride than earlier models and 250 horsepower.
