Marathon Brewing Company has developed a new version of its 26.2 Brew, and long-distance running won’t be required to get your hands on a can. The Boston Marathon-inspired libation is now available nationwide.

According to a press release, the updated golden, hazy ale was designed by The Boston Beer Company venture with runners in mind, now incorporating Himalayan sea salt and a reduced ABV. The beer also contains coriander, nine grams of carbohydrates, and 120 calories.

The recipe’s developer Shelley Smith, Advanced Cicerone and Manager of Research & Product Innovation at The Boston Beer Company, is a marathoner and triathlete herself. She also turned to other runners to understand what they wanted in a beer.

“As someone who loves beer and running, having the opportunity to brew a beer that helps runners celebrate their hard work was a passion project for me,” Smith said in the release. “Understanding what is important to runners is what made brewing this beer different from what is currently available.”

Those consulted included Smith’s running mates from the brewery, as well as Marathon champions Meb Keflezighi and Desiree Linden.

“I’ve run my fair share of marathons over the years and there are countless finish lines throughout the training process that deserve a celebration. Anyone who has trained for a marathon – who is dedicated enough to wake up before dawn or face the elements to get their miles in – knows that part of training is running for the reward,” Keflezighi said. “26.2 Brew celebrates runners’ hard work and achievement with high-quality ingredients and a really great taste.”

The original Boston 26.2 Brew has been available in around Boston during the Marathon for the past seven years, according to the release. This time around, it will be the official beer of the Boston Marathon, and its packaging will display the Boston Athletic Association’s unicorn logo.

“Like the Boston Marathon, The Boston Beer Company is part of the fabric of our great city,” Tom Grilk, CEO of the B.A.A., said. “This year, we are excited to extend our relationship and help make Marathon Brewing’s 26.2 Brew the beer that runners reach for on race day and beyond.”

26.2 Brew is available in 6-pack bottles, 12-pack slim cans, a 24-ounce can, and on draft.
