The Boston Book Festival previewed its author lineup for its 2018 festival Thursday, with Doris Kearns Goodwin, John Kerry, and Michael Pollan among the notable names scheduled to appear.

The festival officially will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, but will have many events scheduled earlier in the week, including a ticketed Friday evening lecture from Pollan, whose newest book, “How to Change Your Mind,” hit stores in May. The other major ticketed event will be a Saturday afternoon discussion between Kearns Goodwin and Kerry. Kerry’s new book, “Everything is Extra,” will be released Sept. 4, while Kearns Goodwin’s new book, “Leadership: In Turbulent Times,” is due to hit shelves Sept. 18. Tickets for both events will be available on the BBF website in early September.

More than 200 authors are expected to be on hand at the mostly free festival, with several other keynote appearances from authors promoting recent or upcoming books, including actress Justine Bateman (“Fame: The Hijacking of Reality”), sports journalist Howard Bryant (“The Heritage”), and Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker (“Enlightenment Now”). The full author lineup will be announced soon.
