According to a petition on, quite a lot of people are ready for “Weird Al’’ Yankovic to perform at the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.

The petition states:

“For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event. The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.’’

The petition, created by Ed Ball, had over 20,000 signatures as of Wednesday evening. In a comment on the page says he “drunkenly submitted’’ the petition a few days ago at a bar and apologized for any spelling or grammar errors. You can read his account of that fateful drunken night here.

Ball made it clear in an interview with via email that he does not condone excessive drinking.

“I would get the same gratification seeing Weird Al perform at the Super Bowl even if I was sober,’’ he said. “So, drink responsibly friends!’’

How did he get this insane amount of signatures so fast?

“I created it on a whim, and posted to, which has a love/hate relationship right now with Weird Al,’’ Ball said. “Last night it had close to 1K+ before I went to bed, and was well over 5K+ by this morning. Then the phone calls, emails, and requests started. It’s been overwhelming to say the least.’’

Don’t know who “Weird Al’’ is? (You should.) Here is an example from his most recent album, Mandatory Fun, which reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Ok, here’s just one more.

Mandatory Fun is “Weird Al’s’’ 14th album, according to Newsweek, and he has been doing parodies since the 80s.

Here is an oldie, but a goodie.

If those videos weren’t proof enough why the petition already has so many signatures. Here are a few reasons from people who already signed:

William said:

“‘Weird Al’ is the voice of America!!’’

Hector said:

“Weird Al brings out the best in us.’’

And Patrick said:

“Because recent years have been very disappointing. This would be a welcome change.’’

So, if you want to “Weird Al’’ to have a chance to perform at the Super Bowl, VOTE!
