Kevin Spacey made a rare return to public view in Baltimore this weekend, as he awaits his Jan. 7 arraignment in Nantucket District Court.
The actor has been almost entirely out of the public eye as he has faced allegations of sexual misconduct, including a criminal charge for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man at a Nantucket bar in 2016.
But, according to news reports, Spacey was photographed in public twice this weekend, once with his face partially obscured as he got into a car. On Sunday, he was spotted in Baltimore, according to the Daily Mail, which relayed a strange incident in which he handed a pizza to a photographer.
The news organization reported that Spacey had been holed up in a mansion on the Baltimore waterfront over the weekend before going to pick up the pie, and handing it to journalist Jae Donnelly.
“I know you’re just doing your job,’’’ Spacey said, according to the Daily Mail, which also posted a video of the interaction. “Keep warm and have a happy New Year.’’
Spacey was also wearing a cap that read, “Retired since 2017.’’ Spacey has scarcely been spotted since last year, when allegations against him began to emerge.
The video appeared to reference Spacey’s character from the Netflix series, “House of Cards,’’ which killed off his character as he came under scrutiny.
Spacey has asked court permission to skip his arraignment in Nantucket.
In a video of the Baltimore pizza handoff posted to TMZ.com, a journalist asked Spacey whether he will be making a court appearance. Spacey did not answer before getting back in his car.
The Nantucket case first came to light in November 2017 when former Boston news anchor Heather Unruh publicly accused Spacey of groping her then-18-year-old son at the Club Car bar on the island.
