Mark Wahlberg and Philadelphia 76ers guard/forward Jimmy Butler have known each other for years. However, Butler says his “best friend” isn’t Marky Mark himself, but a younger member of the Dorchester native’s family.

In a conversation between Wahlberg and Butler published by Interview Magazine, the actor noted the lengths that Butler has gone in order to befriend Wahlberg’s daughter Grace, 9.

“You’ve spent probably five years trying to win over my daughter’s friendship, literally going by yourself to watch her horse-riding competitions,” Wahlberg said. “Now you’ve become friends.”

“That’s my best friend in the world, I’m not gonna lie,” Butler responded. “Once she trusts you, she’s on your side.”

Butler also revealed that he took a cameo role in the 2016 comedy “Office Christmas Party” at Wahlberg’s suggestion, not realizing that Wahlberg wasn’t actually part of the movie. Butler said that he even arrived on set thinking Wahlberg would be in the film.

“The crazy part is that I know what your trailer looks like, so when I got on set, I was like, ‘I don’t see his trailer. Where’s it at?'” Butler told Wahlberg. “Then they were like, ‘Who?’ So I said, ‘Mark Wahlberg. Where’s his trailer?’ And they told me, ‘He’s not in this movie.'”
