On Thursday morning, actress Ellen Pompeo returned to Twitter after a brief hiatus to defend Kelly Ripa from “Bachelor’’ creator Mike Fleiss.

The cohost of ABC’s “Live With Kelly and Ryan,’’ Ripa had criticized “The Bachelor’’ and “The Bachelorette’’ earlier in the week, according to Deadline. “The Bachelor’’ and “The Bachelorette,’’ another Fleiss creation, also air on ABC.

“You guys, you know how I feel about the show: It disgusts me,’’ Ripa told her audience and cohost, Ryan Seacrest. “I can’t stand the idea of 25 exceptional women fighting over one ordinary fella, in my opinion . . . you know how I feel, ladies — we are too special to be arguing over a guy.’’

“Having said that,’’ Ripa added, addressing the “Bachelor’’-lovers in the audience, “All of you women still watch that gross, gross show.’’

Fleiss took the opportunity to launch a full scale Twitter beef with Ripa.

“Easy, @KellyRipa … #TheBachelor franchise pays your salary!’’ Fleiss tweeted at the talk-show host.

Pompeo, the Everett native who has starred on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy’’ for 15 seasons, came to Ripa’s defense.

“Okay @fleissmeister . . . that’s some handle bro! You show does NOT pay @KellyRipa salary,’’ she wrote. “Also we don’t attack successful women on our network and men certainly cannot take credit for their success. Don’t get me started on your show cuz I’m a savage. . . . #bachelorsoooowhite.’’

When someone asked what happened, Pompeo tweeted, “Took a break but had to jump back in the ring for my girl @KellyRipa.’’
