Design New England

July/August 2014 Issue!

Joel Benjamin

We challenged designers to use Janus et Cie’s luxurious outdoor fabric to create — and construct — a fantastic tent. Boston interior designer Jeffrey Delvey’s vision won our hearts (and our cover) with this opulent beach-side dining scene, complete with chandelier, tea set, and coconut cake. Boston’s Moskow Linn Architects created a monumental beach shelter, while interior designer Nina Farmer went for a meditative retreat, all photographed by Joel Benjamin. A bonus video of all the activity is online next week, when the issue hits the newsstands.

There’s more live action as Lance Davis of Hive, a mobile bar and lounge in a vintage Airstream trailer, invents a summer drink inspired by glassware made in New England. Perfect to sip as you page through our summer issue where a family combines three odd structures for their perfect Cape Cod getaway, a contemporary library on the Maine Coast provides a home for legendary fine art books, and a house in Narragansett, Rhode Island, is renovated to be a colorful summer home for a young family. We also visit children’s author Tomie dePaola’s New Hampshire container garden, celebrate the Cape Cod Canal’s 100th birthday, and profile our 2014 Mentors in Design for their efforts guiding the next generation in the design and building industry.
