It always seems to come so quickly. One day you’re admiring the colorful foliage of a beautiful New England fall, the next you’re pulling out your snow boots and counting the shopping days left in the holiday season.

Handmade ornaments decorate the trees.
As we enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends, we’ll give thanks, count our blessings, relax, and then prepare ourselves for the awesome events in the month ahead. For example, on November 28, Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Bolyston, Massachusetts, launches Holly Days, a sparkling display of lighted trees that fill the beautiful Tower Hill property both inside in its plant conservatories and outside in its formal gardens. In addition to the miles of lights, hundreds of poinsettias and more than 1,500 ornaments enhance the seasonal decor. There’s also a roster of holiday music concerts, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays the Botanic Garden along with the Shop at Tower Hill and Twigs Café are open until 9 p.m. Holly Days runs through January 4.

A wreath of evergreens, berries, and pinecones can be made at one of Tower Hill’s holiday workshops.
Also at Tower Hill this weekend there will be two holiday decorating workshops. On November 29, its the Birch Goose Sculpture Workshop (9–11:30 a.m.; member, $50; non-member, $65), where instructor Karen Perkins will demonstrate how to create a twig bird sculpture using twigs, evergreens, vines, and cones. These make a great centerpiece or decoration for the mantel. Then, on November 30, Perkins will conduct the Gardener’s Wreath Workshop (9 a.m.–noon; member, $60; non-member, $75.) where participants can weave a botanical wreath with evergreens collected from the gardens at Tower Hill. All materials are provided for both workshops, just register online and bring a pair of pruning shears.
As an added bonus for the upcoming holiday shopping scramble, for Small Business on November 29 the Shop at Tower Hill is offering members 20 percent off purchases.
And, as always, you can donate to Tower Hill to help in its effort to maintain gardens and connect them with people, especially on December 2, which is Giving Tuesday.
