Design New England got an early Christmas present this week. We won first place honors in the annual editorial and design competition sponsored by publisher’s trade magazine FOLIO:

The Eddies, awarded for editorial excellence, and the Ozzies, given for outstanding design, are considered the Oscars of the magazine industry. This year DNE won the Eddie for best single article in the shelter/home category for “Federal, Favreau Style,” the cover story in our November/December 2013 issue. Written by DNE editor Gail Ravgiala with photographs by contributor Eric Roth, it captures the essence of interior designer Steven Favreau’s unconventional historic house in Chelsea, Vermont.
We felt like The Little Engine That Could (and did!) when we found ourselves in the finalists’ circle with formidable competitors Architectural Digest, Dwell, and Time Inc.’s Coastal Living and This Old House. Our staff, editor Ravgiala, art director Jenna Talbott, and associate editor Courtney Goodrich, is small but fierce in its belief that optimism and hard work will win in the end. Together with our contributing writers, copy editors, photographers, and stylists, the team has accumulated 15 national awards for editorial and design excellence in eight years of publication.
So thank you Santa, and thanks to all our readers, advertisers, and design industry friends who support our work in so many ways.
