Warm weather and daylight that lingers past dinnertime means New Englanders take every opportunity to get outside. At the Cape Cod retreat of architect Kelly Monnahan and landscape architect Keith LeBlanc — the cover story of our May/June issue (on newsstands and online this week) — a new swimming pool and reworked landscape are a summertime magnet for family and friends. In Rhode Island, native stone is used to build a cozy cottage hideaway on a wooded lot, while in Newport, a modern outbuilding on the property of a historic house serves as an upscale greenhouse, living, and entertaining space. We also cruise the beach on locally made skateboards (with a video!), explore a quarter-acre suburban garden designed to encourage wildlife, and stroll through the history of the gates of Harvard Yard.
