Alec Baldwin was taken to the precinct in New York City on Tuesday morning after riding his bicycle the wrong way on Fifth Avenue, confirmed the New York Post‘s Page Six. Rumors of the actor’s arrest swirled after InTouch Weekly posted photos of Baldwin in cuffs (and bike shorts) with a police officer and being put into the back of a cruiser.

Page Six says the 56-year-old was stopped by police and arrested after he “went ballistic’’ when asked for identification, which he apparently did not have. He was then taken to NYPD’s 13th Precinct in Gramercy Park. According to the New York Department of Transportation, bicyclists in the city are held to “all the duties applicable to drivers of motor vehicles’’ — which implies riding in the same direction as traffic would be considered pretty important.

The New York Daily News reports the “30 Rock’’ star was issued “summonses for riding a bicycle the wrong way on a street and disorderly conduct before he was released.’’

UPDATE: Baldwin has since taken to Twitter to provide his own comment on the situation, revealing the arresting officer’s name and badge number:

Stay classy, Baldwin.
