The grown-up gang of Harry Potter finally got an update!

J.K. Rowling released a 1500-word short story on her interactive Harry Potter fan site, Pottermore, entitled “Dumbledore’s Army Reunites at Quidditch World Cup Final.’’ The piece, which requires membership to access, is penned by the series’ fictional gossip columnist Rita Skeeter and fast-forwards years beyond the fall of Lord Voldemort.

Potter, now “about to turn 34,’’ and his pals are spotted in the VIP section at the Quidditch World Cup Final in Brazil, where Skeeter reports they were “no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were in their heyday, but nevertheless recognizable.’’ The lightning-bolt-scar-baring Potter is described as having “threads of silver’’ in his hair and sporting his “distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient twelve-year-old.’’

The story also brings readers up to speed with the series’ main characters, the now wed Hermione Granger (currently Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement) and Ron Weasley (left the Ministry of Magic to join his brother’s Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes joke shop), as well as other notables including: Ginny (reporter), Neville Longbottom (teacher), Luna Lovegood (still looney), and little Teddy Lupin (apparently getting it on with a wee Weasley).

In true Skeeter fashion, the article is full of speculation and thinly veiled allegations (“What really happened in that maze?’’), but overall paints a picture of contentment for Potter and his gang, echoing the epilogue of the final book.

A spokesperson for Rowling told TheBookseller.com that the author has “no plans’’ to write additional pieces about Potter’s adult life. The present day update is part of a series released by Rowling to coincide with the FIFA World Cup. They report:

Rowling has been writing about Quidditch for Pottermore since March 2014. Her final Quidditch World Cup article for Pottermore will be published on 11th July and will be a report on the final between Brazil and Bulgaria, echoing the FIFA World Cup Final in Brazil two days later.
