Don’t expect to see the “How I Met Your Mother’’ spin-off, “How I Met Your Dad,’’ anytime soon — if ever.
The highly anticipated follow-up to the long-running comedy series is likely dead in the water, according to an E! report.
The future was already looking bleak for HIMYD, as CBS had passed on the show’s initial pilot which starred Greta Gerwig and featured narration by Meg Ryan.
“We love this brand and we love this show, but it didn’t work out,’’ CBS’ Nina Tassler revealed during the network’s Upfront press call in May.
The show was brought to other networks, including Fox, but failed to get picked up.
HIMYM co-creator Carter Bays put the virtual nail in the project’s coffin with a series of recent tweets.
I don't know why I keep reading articles about this, but since nobody bothers asking us: We are really, truly not working on HIMYD anymore.— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
HIMYD was fun to work on, terrific cast, terrific writer, but it's over now and we have other stuff we want to do.— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
Maybe in the future it could be something, but I think we need to try something new before we go back to it.— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
To everyone who wanted to see it, I'm sorry. (And to everyone who didn't, you're welcome!)— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
While Bays doesn’t rule out working on the project in the future, for now at least, the show definitely won’t be coming to a television screen near you.
