On Tuesday, Google Maps released a “Pac-Man mode.’’ In honor of April Fools’ Day, it allows users to turn any city or neighborhood into a grid for the classic arcade game. But in Boston, our streets don’t follow a grid.
Most of the time, they don’t make any logistical sense.
As frustrating as the spider-web street layout might be when you find yourself turning down one-way street after one-way street, the traffic rules don’t apply in Google’s Pac-Man game. (Then again, most Boston drivers don’t seem to adhere to them either).
Nonetheless, our Boston driving experience has prepared us to play what is arguably the most difficult Pac-Man map game in America. New York has it easy with a grid. L.A. has long stretches of highway. We have a challenge.
You can play Pac-Man here for a limited time. And while the joke might be on us every other day of the year, today it’s on New York, whose players are on difficulty level 1 while we’re on level 100.
