Later this month, Boston Calling Music Festival returns for its spring installment, and just last week, organizers confirmed fall dates as well. But what will tide over music fans from May to September? Boston Calling’s weekly block parties.
Festival organizers announced today that its free summer series of 21+ block parties will return this Thursday, May 7, and will run through September 17. Each block party will feature music from a different local band, along with a cash bar. The parties take place each week from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dewey Square Park and once a month at Summer Street Plaza at Downtown Crossing.
“We select bands for the block parties in a few different ways,’’ says Boston Calling co-founder Brian Appel. “We consult local press in the area to get an outside perspective, we allow bands to submit music over social media, and we often choose bands that we have worked with in the past, including Tigerman WOAH, who are kicking off this year’s series.’’
Here’s the lineup for the first batch of parties:
Thursday, May 7: Tigerman WOAH – Downtown Crossing
Thursday, May 14: The Almighty Buck – Dewey Square Park
Thursday, May 21: The Swinging Johnsons – Dewey Square Park
Thursday, May 28: Erin Og – Dewey Square Park
Wednesday, June 3: Dirty Bangs – Downtown Crossing
Thursday, June 4: Nemes – Dewey Square Park
Thursday, June 11: The Nonplussed – Dewey Square Park
Thursday, June 18: Grey Season – Dewey Square Park
Thursday, June 25: The Absolute Gentleman – Dewey Square Park
