Jonathan Richman, who wrote ‘Roadrunner,’ is (obviously) coming to Massachusetts on his tour

He’ll play Northampton this spring.

Jonathan Richman, the Natick-born former frontman of The Modern Lovers and songwriter of “Roadrunner,’’ has announced a North American tour. While he will not make a stop in Boston on this trek, the singer will still play Massachusetts.

Pearl Street Downstairs in Northampton will host Richman on April 2. The singer will also play a show in Portland, Maine, directly afterward on April 3.

Jonathan Richman has something of a cult-hero status in Boston and beyond, to the point where a bill was introduced in 2013 to have The Modern Lovers’ 1977 song “Roadrunner’’ recognized as the Massachusetts State Rock Song.

Tickets for the Northampton show are currently available on Pearl Street’s website.
