Twitter reacts to Ben Affleck directing a new Batman movie
Is Affleck the hero Batman fans need right now?
Though it has been announced numerous times before — including as recently as two weeks ago — the Internet once again is freaking out because Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed Tuesday at CinemaCon that Ben Affleck is really, definitely, absolutely going to write and direct a standalone Batman movie.
“[Batman v Superman] set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020,” Tsuijhara told an audience at CinemaCon, per the Hollywood Reporter. “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”
Though Batman v Superman has grossed almost $800 million worldwide to date, the film’s 28 percent rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes suggests why executives have been eager to frequently mention Affleck’s solo Batman, offering fans and critics a future for the Caped Crusader beyond BvS director Zack Snyder.
And fans and critics had plenty to say when Tsujihara’s comments hit the Twittersphere Tuesday night.
Some people were just plain excited.

Others expressed relief that someone other than Snyder would be directing.
The best news about the new Batman movie is Snyder will not be directing it but Affleck https://t.co/gMkWMV82vV

2016 — Affleck will direct Batman instead of Zack Snyder: "Oh, thank god." https://t.co/eAGJWvVgjL— Nick Turner (@SFNick) April 13, 2016
Many hoped that the solo Batman project would involve characters from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.
I’m betting Ben Affleck’s Batman is a heist film, starring either Riddler, Poison Ivy, or Catwoman

Cancel Justice League and just give Affleck all the BvS box office haul to make a dolo Batman with Jared and Margot @wbpictures

And one entertainment writer posed an interesting question: Is Affleck the writer/director better than Affleck the actor?
Ben Affleck's ranked:
1. Director
2. Writer
3. ActorSo idk how to feel about him directing a Batman moviehttps://t.co/ce1ncgZBZM

Though executives didn’t announce when Affleck’s solo Batman will be released, speculation is that the film will occupy one of two release dates recently reserved by Warner Bros. for unannounced DC Extended Universe films, on either Oct. 5, 2018, and Nov. 1, 2019.
