J.K. Simmons is spending a lot of time with Boston-bred actors lately. He plays Commissioner Gordon in the currently filming Justice League with Ben Affleck, Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese in the upcoming Patriots Day with Mark Wahlberg, and a treasury agent looking for information on Affleck’s character in The Accountant, which hits theaters October 14.
On Tuesday, Simmons stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to chat with the host about The Accountant, and said that, for his money, Affleck’s character in that film is almost more of a badass than the Caped Crusader.
The trailer for The Accountant keeps the movie’s plot well-hidden, but Kimmel noted how action-packed the film really is, even while Simmons’s character mostly stays clear of the fray.
“I spend most of my time trailing Ben Affleck around,” Simmons said.
“Following Batman,” Kimmel interjected. “But he’s not Batman in this movie, although you might think he was Batman in this movie.”
“He’s kinda almost more badass than Batman,” Simmons said.
“He’s like an unsuited Batman in this movie,” Kimmel concluded.
As it turns out, Simmons took his role in The Accountant well before signing on as Commissioner Gordon, and even before shooting Patriots Day.
“We shot it about a year and a half ago,” Simmons said. “And they were going to release it last winter, and then they thought, oh, they want the more prestigious fall slot, because they think it’s gonna be a movie that’s going to get a lot of good attention.”
