What are those blue ribbons that stars are wearing on the Oscars red carpet?
If you’re watching red carpet coverage prior to the Oscars, you may be spotting a few stars sporting a blue ribbon on their dresses or tuxedos. Lin-Manuel Miranda (up for Best Original Song for “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana) and his mother Luz Towns-Miranda are wearing them, as is Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga (Loving), and several others. So what do the ribbons represent?
As it turns out, stars wearing the ribbons are showing support for the American Civil Liberties Union and their “Stand With ACLU” initiative.

Others sporting the ribbon include Moonlight director Barry Jenkins (up for Best Director), Manchester by the Sea actress Michelle Williams (nominated for Best Supporting Actress) and her friend and date, Busy Philipps, and supermodel Karlie Kloss.
Interestingly, Kloss is dating investor Josh Kushner, brother of Donald Trump’s White house senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
