The newest trailer for Daddy’s Home 2 hit YouTube Wednesday, and though bad-boy dad Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and sensitive stepdad Brad (Will Ferrell) are now “best friends,” there’s still plenty of fatherly conflict to go around.
The trailer begins with the family deciding to hold one big, happy Christmas together; Dusty and his new wife, Karen (Alessandra Ambrosio), will join Brad and Sara (Linda Cardellini) and all of their respective kids. Things take a turn with the arrival of Dusty’s dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad’s dad (John Lithgow), who essentially play heightened versions of their sons.
Disagreements between Brad and Dusty grow, spurred on by Gibson’s cutting comments and Brad’s unabashed beta male tendencies.
In one scene in the trailer, Brad tells Dusty’s son the way to get a girl to like you is to get in the “friend zone” and listen to “all of her problems with the guys she’s actually dating.”
“That’s the worst advice anyone can give,” Dusty tells his son, bursting out from behind a row of Christmas trees. “You wanna be like Brad and be in the friend zone, or you wanna be like Dad and get in the end zone?”
The conflict is further deepened with the arrival of West Newbury native John Cena as Roger, the father of Karen’s daughter—now Dusty is in the role of stepfather intimidated by a bigger, meaner dad.
“Don’t you want to spend the holidays with your one, true, real dad?” Roger asks his daughter, glaring up at Dusty.
The all-out dad battle is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 10.
