Kerry Washington is directing an episode of season two of “SMILF,” the Southie-set Showtime series starring Brookline native Frankie Shaw.

The “Scandal” star announced the news on Wednesday with an Instagram photo of herself and Shaw, which was later shared by the show’s official Instagram account.

“Oh HELLO Boston! So excited to be filming here,” Washington captioned her photo. “So grateful to @frankieshawisag for the opportunity to direct a show that I LOVE…@sho_smilf.”

Shaw has been spotted around Boston this summer filming the second season. According to syndicated TV columnist Jeff Pfeiffer, it will premiere in January 2019.
