Former NFL tight end Colton Underwood revealed himself as the next “Bachelor” on Tuesday morning’s episode of “Good Morning America.”
Underwood, 26, dated Needham native and Olympic gold medal gymnast Aly Raisman during parts of 2016 and 2017 before joining the cast of the most recent season of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”
While Underwood only finished fourth, he made a name for himself on the show, telling “Bachelorette” Becca Kufrin both that he was a virgin and that, prior to appearing on “The Bachelorette,” he dated Kufrin’s friend and former “Bachelor” co-contestant Tia Booth.
After dropping those bombshells, Underwood and Booth appeared together on yet another ABC dating show, “Bachelor in Paradise,” before breaking up in Monday night’s episode.
At this point, Underwood probably has spent more time on TV than on the field in the NFL — his career featured more cuts than regular season games played. Despite his ever-growing reality show resume, Underwood told “GMA” host Michael Strahan on Tuesday that his true goal for the upcoming season of “The Bachelor” is to find himself a life partner, and that he’s hoping the “third time’s the charm.”
“Absolutely,” Underwood said when Strahan asked if he wanted the show to end in a proposal. “That’s what I’m looking forward to the most, is being engaged and then getting married shortly after that.”
While ABC has not set an official release date for season 23 of “The Bachelor,” fans should expect the show to return in early 2019.
