After months of secret planning by her husband, one local woman received the surprise of a lifetime at TD Garden last Friday.
When Kelly Clarkson came to Boston as part of her “The Meaning of Life” tour, she called for a “special guest” to join her on stage.
“Tonight we have a special thing that’s going to happen,” Clarkson said. “It’s so special in fact, that the person has no idea they’re about to be part of the show.”
That guest was fitness instructor Kate Brewer, whose husband David had arranged everything beforehand.
“It was the best night of my life by far,” Brewer told Boston.com. “I’ve loved Kelly ever since she was first on ‘Idol.’ I went to the ‘American Idol’ tour, I went to a taping of ‘American Idol.’ I’m just obsessed with Kelly.”
According to Brewer, her husband reached out to one of Clarkson’s producers in December, showing them a video of the couple’s wedding day when friends and family did a choreographed dance to the singer’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.”
On Friday, Clarkson played the video for the TD Garden audience, complete with Brewer’s freakout.
“It’s a complete flash mob,” Clarkson said, of the video. “And she is way more excited than I ever am.”
Once the Brewers reached the stage, Clarkson chatted with the couple about their life, including one unfortunate incident where they had to cancel their honeymoon to the Bahamas because Kate reached the airport and realized her passport was expired.
That’s when Clarkson revealed her second surprise.
“I wanted to gift y’all $1000 just to get back to the Bahamas,” Clarkson said.
Brewer confirmed that the couple planned to visit the Bahamas in July or August because “it’s what Kelly wanted for us,” but also said they planned to donate a portion of the money.
“We do also want to give something back to someone else, but we don’t know what we’ll give yet,” Brewer said. “It’s not a ton of money, but it’s just amazing. She’s so nice.”
