Geena Davis will guest star in the third season of “GLOW,’’ the Netflix comedy series about a motley crew of female wrestlers. The streaming giant announced the casting news on Monday and offered fans a first look at Davis’s character, Sandy Devereaux St. Clair.

Davis, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 1988’s “The Accidental Tourist,’’ will appear in half of the 10-episode season as a “former showgirl turned entertainment director of the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino,’’ according to Netflix. The new season follows the “Glorious Women of Wrestling’’ in the 1980s as they headline at the Hotel and Casino.

A Wareham native and Boston University graduate, Davis is also a longtime activist who launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2004. “GLOW’’ stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron. Season 3 drops on Netflix on Aug. 9.
