In his upcoming movie “Ford v Ferrari,” Matt Damon’s character, automotive designer Carroll Shelby, has retired from competitive driving, leaving Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to compete on behalf of Ford Motor Company in the endurance race 24 Hours of Le Mans.

If the Cambridge native’s skills behind the wheel on Monday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” are any indication, it’s a good thing Damon stayed in the pit.

After chatting with DeGeneres about the film, which hits theaters Nov. 15, Damon attempted to navigate a golf cart obstacle course, collecting a series of flags in under one minute while wearing a sumo wrestler suit.

Damon had trouble almost immediately, crashing into obstacles and struggling to liberate the flags from the construction barrels and barriers holding them in place.

“Ellen, I feel like you lied to me,” Damon said, in between grunts and a bleeped expletive.

In the end, Damon failed to complete the course in under a minute, but DeGeneres and Shutterfly still agreed to donate $50,000 to, the non-profit Damon co-founded in 2009 dedicated to bringing clean water and sanitation to the world.
