‘SNL’ blasts Trump’s handling of COVID-19 vaccine on ‘Weekend Update’
Colin Jost had a low blow for Joe Biden as well.
The impending COVID-19 vaccine was the topic du jour on “Saturday Night Live” this week, with Kate McKinnon appearing as Dr. Anthony Fauci to discuss the vaccine during the cold open and “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che poking fun at President Trump for his administration’s handling of the vaccine rollout.
Jost criticized the Trump administration for failing to acquire 100 million additional doses of the vaccine from Pfizer despite having several opportunities to do so.
“Who at any point this year thought, ‘We have almost too much vaccine?’” Jost said. “What the hell are your priorities? You don’t have the money for life-saving vaccines, but you can start up a space army? That’s like the captain of the Titanic, while it’s going down, saying, ‘You wanna start a space army?’”
While questioning why Trump was continuing to contest the election results, Jost joked about Trump’s mental faculties.
“Don’t worry, Trump isn’t throwing in the towel, because he’s been a fighter his whole life,” Jost said. “At least that’s what it looks like on his brain scans.”
Jost kept things fair by throwing a cheap shot at Biden as well.
“President-elect Joe Biden has emphasized his commitment to vaccine distribution by promising 100 million shots in 100 days,” Jost said. “Which is also his Botox routine.”
