Boston Calling is trying something a bit different for announcing its 2022 festival lineup.

Boston Calling organizers announced Wednesday that hip-hop duo Run the Jewels and rock/soul group Black Pumas will join headliners Rage Against the Machine and Foo Fighters as part of its 2022 lineup.

In the past, the festival has announced its entire lineup on the same day, but organizers said that the announcement of Run the Jewels and Black Pumas will be part of a series of artist announcements to roll out over the next several months. In total, more than 50 performers, including a third headliner, will be announced ahead of the three-day festival, which will be held at Harvard Athletic Fields in Allston next Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, 2022.

The announcement of Run the Jewels, who will perform at Boston Calling for a third time, was an unsurprising one. The duo, comprised of Killer Mike and El-P, are opening for Rage Against the Machine on the band’s North American tour, and had been announced as part of the festival’s 2020 lineup before its cancellation due to the pandemic. Black Pumas, meanwhile, will be making their Boston Calling debut, coming off of a year that brought the group multiple Grammy nominations and a performance at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

“As we get closer to our return in 2022, we’re excited to reveal more artists on our Boston Calling lineup each month,” festival co-founder Brian Appel said in a press release. “Run the Jewels has been an incredible highlight at Boston Calling in years past and we look forward to welcoming them and Black Pumas, an extraordinary new artist playing the festival for the first time.”

A limited number of early bird 3-day tickets are on sale now at bostoncalling.com. The current pricing tiers for GA ($299.99), VIP ($799.99), and Platinum ($1,599.99) three-day passes are the lowest that will be available for the festival. If you want to bring a friend or a loved one, a limited-time two-pack of three-day GA tickets is also available for $549.99.
