Digital agency iStrategyLabs has created the experimental S.E.L.F.I.E. mirror — which, in short, stands for “Self Enhancing Live Feed Image Engine.’’ Because selfie had no self-explanatory meaning before this. The concept is pretty simple, a mirror senses a person’s smile using face-recognition software via a built-in MacMini and snaps a photo using a webcam, signifying the subject using an LED countdown. The S.E.L.F.I.E. then posts your mug to social media channels with a watermark or logo.
Over-the-top? Maybe. But will it be successful? Possibly. We suspect it will do quite well with brands and corporations looking for a novelty for their next party/trade show/launch event. It’s essentially a sleeker photobooth with newfound name recognition. And as a personal item? We can only hope it won’t.
