A grown man proposed to his girlfriend with a ring made out of plastic LEGOs.

And she said yes.

We’ll let that sink in.

While some women prefer diamonds, Allison Donlon gladly accepted the LEGO ring from Michael Thousand during Adult Night on Wednesday at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston. The Chelmsford couple plans to move to Michigan at the end of the month, and Thousand wanted a chance to show her just how much he cared before they made the big move.

“We’re just big LEGO fans,’’ Thousand told “I knew that a standard, boring, out-to-dinner kind of thing wasn’t going to cut it.’’

Thousand called a month before the night’s event to set up the proposal. He rigged the final raffle, having the master builder call his name to receive the night’s mystery prize, which turned out to be the LEGO ring. He then got down on one knee and turned to Donlon in front of the crowd of 250, and popped the question.

“We’re complete nerds,’’ Thousand said. “We can’t deny that.’’

And of course, he followed up with a real diamond ring.
