We asked Boston’s longest-married couples how they did it. Their answers were fantastic.

Last Thursday, Mayor Marty Walsh teamed up with the Boston Elderly Commission to honor local couples who have been together 50 years or more. Over 80 married couples from the area came to the Fairmont Copley Plaza in the Back Bay to toast champagne, have lunch, and dance to live music. Mayor Walsh even helped the oldest couple, Judith and Herman Chernoff—who have been married for 68 years—cut a tiered wedding cake.

Between the toasting and the reminscing, asked these couples for their secrets to a lasting marriage.
