Panera Bread buys into popular local bakery
The fast-casual chain said Tatte Bakery & Cafe will continue to operate as an independent company.

Panera Bread Co., the fast-casual chain known for its bread bowls filled with soup and other sandwich and salad combinations, has invested in Tatte Bakery & Cafe. Tatte serves artisanal pastries and coffee at its five locations throughout Brookline, Boston, and Cambridge.
“Tatte appeals to high-end consumers with its artisanal pastries, homemade breads, salads and sandwiches,’’ Panera said in a statement. We believe that this bakery-cafe concept has unique growth potential in markets that are complementary to Panera and want to help support that growth.’’
The company added that Tatte will continue to operate as an independently under owner Tzurit Or’s leadership, “with access to select Panera resources.’’
