Whether you’re an avid cable news watcher or an unwitting fish, you’re liable to get hooked by Rachel Maddow.
The MSNBC host took time away from the hustle and bustle of New York City for some ice fishing near her home in West Cummington, Mass. over the weekend.
“Icefishing at the Ashfield LakeHouse in Western Mass, the greatest place on earth,” Maddow wrote on Twitter, posting a photo of herself out on the ice with a red folding chair and a Vexilar ice fishing rig.

Maddow has sung the praises of ice fishing and Ashfield Lake House before, citing the bar and grill’s Sloppy Joes as perfect ice fishing fuel in a January 2018 tweet.
According to a 2005 Boston Globe article, Maddow’s now-partner Suzy Mikula bought their West Cummington home in December 1998 and met Maddow four months later, when she was searching for someone to help her manage upkeep of the creaky 1865 home and the land surrounding it.
In a 2014 New York Times interview, Maddow said she typically arrived at the house at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning during a weekend away from New York. She said the the place has no television, but it does have a fishing pole.
“A very old friend of mine gave me a fishing pole,” Maddow told the Times. “I’d done a little fishing as a kid. Now, I have started fishing in the rivers around my house. I have my Massachusetts fishing license in my wallet and my pole in the shed.”
