Here’s the Stars Wars ticket situation in Boston for its opening night and day

May the Force be with you.

After months of hype surrounding the next movie in the galaxy far, far away, Disney and Lucasfilm finally graced the Internet with the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens Monday night.

With it came an immediate announcement that advance ticket sales would begin that same night. Of course, fans stormed the Internet like a cyber version of the Empire’s assault on Hoth, but alas, the force wasn’t with anyone. According to Deadline, “The sudden rush of demand from Jedi-happy fans has caused loading issues and site outages on purchasing platforms including Fandango, the Alamo Drafthouse, and AMC Theaters.’’

While this may seem tragic, Fandango said in a statement to Variety, “This is an extraordinary time for the industry,’’ and the “enthusiasm for this year’s most anticipated movie is out of this world.’’ (Punny!)

Ryan Noonan, director of communications at AMC Theatres, told in an email that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattered AMC’s previous mark for opening-day advance ticket sales,’’ despite the slowdown online. IMAX ticket sales accounted for “38 percent of AMC’s ticket sales gross,’’ he added. AMC is the largest IMAX exhibitor in the nation, Noonan said.

Hoping to catch an IMAX showing (as in, the best-of-the-best experience) of the movie on the night of December 17 (aka, so that you’re one of the first to see the film) in the Boston and greater Boston area? Yeah, sorry: These tickets are sold out at AMC Assembly Row and AMC Loews Boston Common, Jordan’s Furniture Natick, and Jordan’s Furniture Reading.

However, these locations still have IMAX tickets available for Friday, December 18: AMC Assembly Row (showings during the day and late at night), AMC Loews Boston Common (day, late night), Jordan’s Furniture Natick (day), and Jordan’s Furniture Reading (day, late night).

Cool with skipping out on IMAX? Then a few movie theaters in the area still have Thursday night shows available (in addition to Friday times). These include: AMC Loews Boston Common, Regal Fenway, AMC Assembly Row, Showcase Superlux Chestnut Hill, AMC Braintree, and Showcase Cinema de Lux Revere.

The sands of Tatooine may have settled in the past 48 hours, but maybe don’t wait to snatch your seats, IMAX or not. These tickets will likely be gone, and soon.
