Where Batman v Superman opening ranks all-time

Six of the top 10 movie openings of all-time belong to superhero films following the estimated $170.1 million debut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

When final figures are released Monday, the Warner Bros. release may drop a notch below Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. But the huge opening is just the most recent movie to open with box-office far beyond the once hard-to-reach $100 million mark.

Here’s where the Batman v Superman opening ranks:

  1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, $248 million. (Dec. 18, 2015)
  2. Jurassic World, $208.8 million. (June 12, 2015)
