Actress Michelle Monaghan will play the wife of Mark Wahlberg’s character in Patriots’ Day, the Wahlberg-produced movie about the Boston Marathon bombings, CBS Films announced in a statement Tuesday.

Monaghan, whose previous work includes True Detective, Gone Baby Gone, and Boston Public, will portray a composite character named Carol Saunders.

“In the aftermath of the attack heroes appeared from every corner of Boston,” the film’s director Peter Berg said in the statement. “Michelle is a remarkable actress who knows the people of this city and understands their courage and strength.”

Wahlberg’s character is a composite police sergeant named Tommy Saunders who is involved in the investigation following the bombings. This press release seemingly marks the first time the studio has released the name of Wahlberg’s character.

The film’s cast also includes John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Vincent Curatola, and James Colby.

Filming has already started in areas around Boston. Goodman was spotted on a set in Quincy on Tuesday, and Dorchester residents were told scenes would be filmed in the neighborhood on Wednesday.

The movie will open in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21.
