A new ‘Ghostbusters’ is coming, this one co-written and directed by Jason Reitman

There’s another “Ghostbusters’’ in the works, and this one is going to hit a little closer to home.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Jason Reitman will direct and co-write another “Ghostbusters’’ film, slated for release in 2020. The movie will reportedly take place in the same universe as the original 1984 flick, which was directed by Ivan Reitman, Jason’s father.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first ‘Ghostbusters’ fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set,’’ Jason told EW. “I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.’’

The news comes more than two years after the “Ghostbusters’’ reboot premiered in 2016. The Paul Feig-directed film ­— starring Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon — filmed in Boston, and created a universe separate from the original.

“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them,’’ Reitman told EW. “However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.’’

Reitman retweeted the article after its publication and added: “finally got the keys to the car.’’
